U.S. Naval commander gives order to fire on Japanese planes. Three Japanese bombers are reported from Shanghai to have been shot down near Hankow by American and French warships. Rear-admiral David Le Breton, commander of the US gunboat "Luzon"(560 tons) gave the order to open fire.
