U.S. planes release bombs on shouthern Hokkaido targets.

Japan, 11 augustus 1945

U.S. planes release bombs on shouthern Hokkaido targets. TBM's (Martin torpedo bombers) and SB20's (Curtis dive bombers), operating from carriers of the U.S. Third Fleet, release their bomb loads on military installations at Hakodate, southern Hokkaido, on the Japanese Mainland, on July 14, 1945. This was the first air operation coordinated with a close-in naval bombardment of the enemy's home shores. The American warships concentrated on the industrial area of Kamaishi, on northern Honshu, 275 miles (430 km.) northeast of Tokyo, capital of Japan.
