U.S. army Technicians assemble motor vehicles at plant in New Guinea Skilled U.S. Army technicians lower the steel frame of a motor truck to the axles on the field assembly line at a U.S. Army ordnance base on the Southwest Pacific Island of New Guinea. Here trucks, jeeps, staf cars and other typers of automotive equipment are put together from parts shipped to the base from war plants in the U.S. Each man along the line performs a different operation, adds a diiferent part or makes an adjustment until, at the end of the line, a new Armyu vehicle stands assembled, ready to go into service. More than 5500 motor vehicles haven been assembled at this base built on a clearing in jungle territory wrested from the Japanese.
