Parijs, 4 september 1945

Boeing 'B-29 Superfortress'. 'First B-29 in Europe lands at Orly. The first B-29 Superfortress to land on the European Continent is shown at Orly airfield, outside Paris, where it put down September 4, 1945. The non-stop flight of 2,300 nautical miles from Goose Bay, Labrador, was made in nine hours and twenty-one-minutes, breaking the trans-Atlantic record set by a Constellation. Major Charles T. Moreland, a Texas member of the 20th Air Force who flew in the first B-29 raid over Tokyo, was pilot of the giant air ship which was manned by a crew of Pacific war veterans. The B-29, which has a wing spread of 141 feet and an overall length of 100 feet, will be put on exhibition in Parais as part of the American war material responsible for the eclipse of the Japanese.'
